Norwegian Chooses Navtech Software for Class I & II EFB Implementation
Fast-growing airline is deploying Navtech's airport performance software

January 4, 2010 (TORONTO and OSLO) -- Norwegian Air Shuttle, the fourth-largest low-cost in Europe, has contracted with Navtech, Inc. to provide aircraft performance software products to support its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Class I & II environment, the companies announced today.  Norwegian is one of the first airlines in Europe to receive full operational approval for use of a Class II EFB system in all phases of flight.  It will deploy a fully integrated portfolio of Navtech software products to manage information in the air and on the ground for its fleet of Boeing 737s.

"Norwegian's strategic IT development goal is staying ahead by utilizing the newest technology available to optimize all aspects of the operation, including operational control, in a rapidly expanding and challenging environment.  The EFB solution will ease future expansion and enable the company to improve and streamline the operation, standing strong to meet upcoming demands and challenges in the aviation industry," said Ole Christian Melhus, Deputy Director Flight Operations and EFB Project Manager.

"Norwegian's choice of Navtech for its highly progressive environment validates the work we've done to lead in the area of EFB software development," said Mike Hulley, Navtech CEO.

After an extensive analysis, Norwegian contracted for Navtech's Aircraft Performance and Mass & Balance products, which will be incorporated into its EFB devices along with Navtech's eCharts, Seamless ENC, and FMS Navigation Data products. The EFB products are fully integrated with a unique design that enables rapid information exchange of preset common data-- information input in one module is automatically pre-populated in the others. Additionally, pilots have a visual display of performance calculations, which can be stored and disseminated, saving time and reducing their workload.  Deployment of the system in the Norwegian fleet has already begun and is expected to wrap up in early 2010.

Fast-growing Norwegian has its main hub at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen with high-frequency domestic operations in Norway and international flights out of 8 bases, including such cities as Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Moss, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Warsaw. It is the largest low-fare airline in Scandinavia. In 2008, it transported 9.1 million people on 200 routes to 90 destinations, covering across Europe into North Africa and the Middle East.
