Norwegian Air Shuttle Chooses Navtech

The fourth-largest low-cost airline in Europe, Norwegian Air Shuttle, is deploying Navtech’s Aircraft Performance software in its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB).
In fall 2009, Norwegian contracted with Navtech to provide Aircraft Performance and Weight & Balance software to support its EFB Class I & II environment. Norwegian is one of the first airlines in Europe to receive full operational approval for use of a Class II EFB system in all phases of flight. They are deploying a fully integrated portfolio of Navtech software to manage their fleet of Boeing 737s.
“Norwegian’s strategic IT development goal is staying ahead by utilizing the newest technology available to optimize all aspects of the operation, including operational control, in a rapidly expanding and challenging environment. The EFB solution will ease future expansion and enable the company to improve and streamline the operation, standing strong to meet upcoming demands and challenges in the aviation industry,” said Ole Christian Melhus, Deputy Director Flight Operations and EFB Project Manager.
Norwegian also operates with Navtech’s eCharts, Seamless ENC, and FMS Navigation Data products. The EFB products are fully integrated with a unique design that enables rapid information exchange of preset common data-- information input in one module is automatically pre-populated in the others. Additionally, pilots have a visual display of performance calculations, which can be stored and disseminated, saving time and reducing their workload. Deployment of the system in the Norwegian fleet is expected to complete Q1 2010.

Navtech continues to develop customized performance software for cockpit use. The implementation of the Norwegian Class II EFB Take-off, Landing and W&B performance applications marks a milestone in the adaptation of our products for EFB hardware, all with flight safety, optimization and user-friendliness in focus. The Navtech Aircraft Performance product suite currently covers tailored cockpit solutions for Handhelds, Ultra PC's, Laptops, ACARS and the vast majority of EFB hardware.
